Porcelain Crowns
A porcelain crown, also known as a dental cap, is a covering that fits over your entire tooth. The porcelain crown looks like a natural tooth. Crowns or caps are used when you have a tooth with bad structural damage. If you have a cracked tooth, a crown will hold your tooth together to prevent the crack from getting worse. You may also need a crown if you don’t have enough of your tooth left to support a filling. Crowns can also be used as preventative measure to stop weak teeth from fracturing.
To be fitted for a crown, Houston Dentist Dr. John Barras or Dr. Frank Gusemano will take an impression of your tooth and mouth. This impression will be sent to a lab to create a custom crown. While this is being made, the dentist will fit you with a temporary crown. Both the temporary and the permanent crown will be made to look natural and match the rest of your teeth.
Depending on your specific dental needs, you may also be eligible for same day crowns. Instead of being placed with a temporary crown and having to return to the dentist when the permanent porcelain crown is made, the dentists can now create a porcelain crown in our Houston offices using laser technology. The E4D dentist system enables us to take a digital scan of your tooth. Then, right in our office, the dentist will design and mill your permanent crown. Our dentists will determine whether same day crowns are an option for you.
